A MARRIED PORTRAIT SESSION IN THE SANTA CRUZ REDWOODS

Jeff and Yvett are two of the kindest, most caring souls you’ll ever meet.

I (Kailyn) photographed their elopement back in 2016, and three years later, on a chilly autumn afternoon, Eric and I rendezvoused with them at the same magical spot in Aptos where they got married — Sand Rock Farm — to celebrate their love by capturing new portraits of them in this beautiful environment.

Sand Rock Farm was originally built in 1887 as the first winery in Santa Cruz County. When it was converted into a bed and breakfast in 1999, it was restored with authentic antique furnishings. Its old-fashioned charm nestled in the lush forest was the perfect setting for this nostalgic session.

We met the husband and wife just outside of the inn and were amazed at how elegant they looked! Jeff looked as if he had just stepped out of his wedding day, wearing a sharp suit and tie, and Yvett was a vision in a long emerald gown, with lace sleeves and a skirt that flowed softly to the ground.

best friends

After catching up briefly and chatting warmly, we set off on our adventure, wandering around the magnificent grounds and capturing images of the two of them sharing sweet moments, whispering secrets, and laughing together like the best friends that they are.

The coastal fall colors took my breath away — rich greens, vibrant reds, and bright yellows. The air was chilly but refreshing, and the softly lit clouds cast a gentle light over the scenery.

Once we had spent a good amount of time outdoors, we transitioned into the lovely space of the inn for some unique, moody photographs. Utilizing the window light as well as the warmth of the antique lamps indoors, we had so much fun creating art together!

For our final spot, we made our way out to the base of a magnificent redwood tree where the two first became husband and wife three years ago. It was an emotional moment reflecting on how far they’d come, remembering the vows they’d made to each other, and dreaming of the future.

We wrapped up the session with hugs, great marriage advice from the two of them (as it was the month before Eric and I were about to celebrate our own wedding), and well wishes as we parted ways and drove out into the peaceful night.

This couple has been SO supportive of us and we haven’t met many people who are as intentional and kind as they have been! From wedding well-wishes, registry gifts, and keeping in touch throughout the months, they have been a blessing to us and we are so grateful to know them.

Jeff and Yvett, thank you for trusting us not only with your special day years ago, but with the continuation of telling your story and capturing your love. We wish all the best for the two of you as you continue this wonderful journey together!
